Range Divots - The Right Way
I found this very useful information in one of my trade magazines and wanted to share it with everyone.
Hitting on natural grass all year long is a luxury for us at the New Richmond Golf Club, but if everyone wasted grass like the person in the "Not Good" photo, we could lose that privilege due to increased maintenance on the Joe Swanda Learning Center tee box.
You can see that the "Not Good" person took a full divot with each shot and they spread their divots out over such a large area that there is no room for the next person to hit practice balls.
The "Good" photo is much better, but the "Better" photo is the way to go. If you leave your divots in a lineal pattern as seen in the "Better" photo there will be no wasted grass between divots and the narrow strips of grass between the rows will actually allow the grass to fill-in faster which in turn leads to faster recovery.
Thank you for taking your time reading this and looking at the photos. The Joe Swanda Learning Center is the nicest practice facility around; if we all start following this advice and make sure we fill in our divots with the seed and soil we can help make sure it stays that way.
